DIY Week Awards move to London venue for 2018

The DIY Week Awards will run as a springtime event in a London venue next year, DIY Week can reveal.

Formerly held in the midlands during February to coincide with trade shows Totally DIY & Totally Tools and, most recently Spring Fair in 2017, the awards event will now take place on Friday, May 11 at a London location.

The 2018 DIY Week awards will also see a departure from its origins as a black-tie evening event, kicking off at lunchtime and with a lounge suit dress code. The move is a nod to DIY Week’s past events, The Industry Awards and Product of the Year Awards, which ran in May until the DIY Week Awards were launched in 2011, joining with sister event Britain’s Best Retailer Awards.

“A London venue makes sense for the event,” said DIY Week editor Fiona Garcia. “It has great transport links, making it easily accessible for guests travelling from all over the UK. People have always enjoyed carrying on the party afterwards – particularly if they are celebrating a win or entertaining customers – and a vibrant city like London means there is plenty on the doorstep to enable them to do that.

“Equally, the move back to a Friday lunchtime should be a popular choice for the industry, who take time out to attend.”
She concluded: “We are always keen to create a buzz when bringing the industry together for an event like this and these changes should do just that.”

Details of the venue will be revealed soon but, in the meantime, make sure you have May 11 in your diary and start thinking about who to invite to this major networking event.
